DP World has appointed Jason Varsamidis as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of its Asia Pacific region, effective immediately, placing him in charge of its ports, terminals and logistics businesses across 22 geographies.
Varsamidis brings close to three decades of experience with DP World and the former P&O Ports, which he joined in 1997. He most recently served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of DP World Asia Pacific from 2020, playing a key role in shaping the region’s strategy, investment agenda and business performance.
Before that, he spent seven years as CFO of DP World Australia. Over the course of his career, he has overseen mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure projects and business turnaround programmes.
In his new role, Varsamidis will focus on regional strategy and operational performance, strengthening end-to-end supply chains and expanding DP World’s integrated logistics capabilities. The region’s operations employ more than 12,000 people.
Yuvraj Narayan, Group CEO of DP World, said, “Jason is a highly respected leader with a deep understanding of our business and the markets in which we operate. His track record and commercial acumen make him well placed to lead Asia Pacific, one of our key growth engines.”
Narayan added that the appointment provides continuity for the business while keeping the company focused on its strategic priorities, customers and people.
Commenting on his appointment, Varsamidis said, “I’m honoured to lead DP World in Asia Pacific. We have a strong business, talented people and real opportunities across this region. I’ll work closely with our leadership team and colleagues to maintain momentum, deliver for our customers and partners, and keep advancing our strategic priorities.”
In a LinkedIn post, Varsamidis also acknowledged the colleagues who had supported his career, as well as his wife, Rachael, and family. He highlighted the role of employees in supporting customers, connecting markets and keeping supply chains moving.
“We have a clear strategy, a strong team and significant opportunities ahead,” he wrote, adding that he looked forward to working with colleagues, customers and partners across the region to build on the business’s existing foundations and deliver its next phase of growth.
DP World said it would announce arrangements for the Asia Pacific CFO role separately.
