Manulife Investment Management has appointed Kenneth Ong as head of equities, Singapore, effective 1 September 2026, as Hock Fai Chan prepares to retire from the firm.
Based in Singapore, Ong will lead the Singapore equities team, oversee equity portfolios and support the development of Manulife’s regional equities platform.
Ong joins from Lion Global Investors
Ong brings 18 years of investment experience, including 15 years in public equities and three years in direct real estate investment.
He joins from Lion Global Investors, where he spent nearly 12 years, most recently as portfolio manager for Singapore equity strategies. He previously managed Indonesian equities and covered global equities as an analyst.
Earlier, Ong worked at GuocoLand Group in investment and corporate planning.
Chan to retire after more than 25 years in industry
Chan, Manulife’s head of equities, Singapore, and lead portfolio manager for its Singapore equity strategies, will retire on 31 December 2026.
He has spent more than eight years with Manulife Investment Management and has over 25 years of investment industry experience.
June Chua, head of Asia equities at Manulife Investment Management, said the appointment strengthens the firm’s investment platform through experienced talent and local market expertise, while highlighting Singapore’s importance to its regional equities franchise.
HuiJian Koh, chief executive of Manulife Investments Singapore, said the appointment reinforces the firm’s commitment to differentiated Singapore equity strategies.
