Shell elevates Ahmad Bukhari Mohd Yunus as Vice President of HR Malaysia

Global energy company Shell has appointed Ahmad Bukhari Mohd Yunus as Vice President Human Resources Malaysia, effective June 1, 2026, marking a significant leadership transition within the company's people and culture function.

The appointment underscores Shell’s continued emphasis on internal leadership development, with Yunus bringing nearly 18 years of experience within the organisation and more than two decades of professional expertise spanning talent management, succession planning, employee relations, rewards, HR operations, and organisational transformation.

Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Yunus said, “I am pleased to share that, effective 1 June 2026, I have taken on the role of Vice President Human Resources Malaysia at Shell.”

Reflecting on his journey with the company, he added, “Since joining Shell in 2008, I have been fortunate to work with exceptional leaders, colleagues, and teams across a wide range of experiences that have shaped my career and leadership journey.”

He also expressed gratitude to the mentors, colleagues, family, and friends who supported him throughout his career and said he looks forward to partnering with leaders and teams across the organisation to strengthen people capabilities, nurture future talent, and help shape Shell’s future workforce.

Prior to his elevation, Yunus served as Head of HR Integrated Gas and Upstream Malaysia, a role he assumed in September 2024. Before that, he held several senior leadership positions, including Head of Global Talent Upstream and Head of HR, Shell Business Operations.

During his tenure as Head of Global Talent Upstream, Yunus led senior succession planning for leadership roles from Vice President to General Manager levels while spearheading diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) talent strategies and resourcing initiatives for critical business positions. In his earlier role leading Shell Business Operations HR, he focused on employee engagement, talent attraction and retention, performance management, and regulatory compliance.

His experience also includes serving as Country Rewards and Employee Relations/Industrial Relations Manager, where he oversaw remuneration and benefits frameworks and workplace well-being policies, as well as Operations Manager for Middle East, Asia, and Joint Ventures HR Services, managing HR operations across 19 countries.

Since joining Shell in 2008 as Human Resources Manager for its manufacturing and refinery operations, Yunus has played a key role in strengthening labour relations, driving employee engagement, and aligning people strategies with business priorities across multiple geographies.

An engineering graduate from Multimedia University, Yunus later earned an MBA in Strategic Management from International Islamic University Malaysia. His career has been marked by a strong focus on leadership succession, talent development, employee engagement, and HR transformation.
