P60 NCR minimum wage hike takes effect, covering 1.1 million workers

Around 1.1 million minimum wage workers in the Philippines’ National Capital Region (NCR) will receive a P60 daily wage increase following the implementation of Wage Order No. NCR-28 on September 26.

The new rates raise the minimum daily wage for non-agricultural workers in Metro Manila from P695 to P755.

Workers in agriculture, small retail and service establishments with 15 or fewer employees, and small manufacturing establishments with fewer than 10 workers will see their minimum daily wage increase from P658 to P718.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said employers are required to comply with the new rates and update their payroll and compensation systems to reflect the increases.

DOLE Secretary Francis N. Tolentino said the wage adjustment demonstrates the role of tripartite wage-setting, bringing together government, employers and workers in determining wage increases.

The wage order was developed through the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-NCR (RTWPB-NCR) and confirmed by the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC).

DOLE said it will continue monitoring compliance with the order and provide guidance to both employers and workers on its implementation.

The increase comes as the Philippines continues to use regional wage boards and tripartite consultations to adjust minimum wages, taking into account workers’ wage concerns alongside employers’ operating conditions and broader economic considerations.
