Singapore has officially established the Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) as a new statutory board under the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), jointly overseen by the Ministry of Education (MOE), reported by Human Resource Online.
Created through the merger of SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and Workforce Singapore (WSG), SWDA brings together skills development, workforce planning and employment support under a single organisation. The agency aims to help Singaporeans build lifelong careers while supporting employers in developing a future-ready workforce.
Three priorities
SWDA has outlined three key priorities: empowering individuals to make informed learning and career decisions, helping employers adopt skills-first practices and invest in workforce development, and building a more integrated training, career and employment services ecosystem.
The agency will strengthen access to training and jobs through better labour market insights and personalised services, while working with employers to identify in-demand skills, expand workplace learning and encourage upskilling and reskilling.
Industry collaboration
SWDA will also partner with institutions of higher learning, tripartite partners, industry associations and service providers to respond to evolving workforce needs. It plans to better integrate jobs and skills data to create a more seamless skills and career journey for both individuals and employers.
