Barings names Alastair Wright as Head of Asia Pacific, Eric Jan as Head of Greater China & Southeast Asia; Duncan Robertson to retire

In his new role, Wright brings over two decades of industry leadership experience. He succeeds Duncan Robertson, who is set to retire following 17 years of distinguished service with the firm. 

“During his tenure, Duncan has played a pivotal role in expanding Barings’ presence and capabilities across the region. The firm extends its deepest gratitude for his leadership and dedication,” the firm said in its leadership transition announcement. 

“As the new Head of APAC, Alastair will oversee Barings’ strategic direction and operations across the region, building on the strong foundation established by Duncan. Alastair brings extensive experience from his role as Head of APAC Real Estate and is well-positioned to lead Barings into its next phase of growth in Asia Pacific,” it added. 

Wright joined Barings in 2008 and most recently served as Executive Director, Finance and Operations, based in Australia. Commenting on his appointment, he said, “I am honored to take on the role of Head of APAC at such an exciting time for Barings. I want to thank Duncan for his outstanding leadership and the legacy he leaves behind. I am committed to working closely with our talented teams across the region to continue expanding our business, deepening client relationships, and driving sustainable growth in APAC.” 

In addition to Wright’s appointment, Eric Jan will take on an expanded role as Head of Greater China and Southeast Asia, overseeing Barings’ business in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, as well as governance responsibilities for Barings India. Jan will report directly to Wright.
