Gas Malaysia appoints Azli Mohamed as President and Group CEO

Azli brings over two decades of leadership experience spanning the energy, aviation, infrastructure, finance, sustainability, and digital transformation sectors.
Gas Malaysia has appointed Azli Mohamed as its President and Group Chief Executive Officer, completing a planned leadership transition that was first announced earlier this year.
The company confirmed the appointment in a filing to Bursa Malaysia, noting that Azli had been named President and Group CEO-designate in March as part of a structured succession process designed to ensure a smooth transfer of leadership responsibilities.
Azli succeeds to the top role with more than two decades of experience spanning the energy, aviation, infrastructure, finance, sustainability, and digital transformation sectors.
Prior to joining Gas Malaysia, he served as Managing Director of Siemens Energy Malaysia, where he led initiatives focused on energy technology, grid modernization, and sustainable energy solutions. During his tenure, he played a role in advancing discussions around ASEAN power integration and energy transition strategies.
Azli's career includes senior leadership positions across several multinational corporations and public-listed companies.
Before Siemens Energy, he served as Chief Ventures and Sustainability Officer and Chief Entrepreneurial Commerce Officer at AEON Group Malaysia, where he led sustainability, digital commerce, and new venture initiatives.
He also held transformation and strategy leadership roles at Capital A, formerly AirAsia Group, including Chief Transformation Officer and Chief Strategy & Growth Officer, helping drive the company's digital transformation agenda.
Earlier in his career, Azli served as Chief Strategy Officer at Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad and Chief Operating Officer of General Electric Malaysia, overseeing growth strategies, operational transformation, sustainability initiatives, and strategic partnerships.
His professional background also includes roles at Mubadala, Masdar, Etisalat UAE, Axiata, MISC, and RHB Banking Group, providing him with experience across investment, infrastructure, telecommunications, renewable energy, and corporate finance.
Gas Malaysia said Azli's appointment comes as the company continues to strengthen its role in supporting Malaysia's industrial and economic development through reliable and sustainable energy solutions.
Beyond his executive roles, Azli serves on several advisory and industry bodies, including the National Advisory Council of the UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei and the Advisory Board of the ASEAN Innovation Business Platform.
He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) in Finance and Investment Analysis from Universiti Utara Malaysia, a Certificate in Islamic Banking and Finance from IBFIM, and has completed executive education programs including INSEAD's Leadership Finance Program. He is also pursuing a Euro-ASEAN MBA at KEDGE Business School.
