John Shipman appointed CEO of Barclays Bank (Suisse) SA

Shipman takes over from CEO Rahim Daya, who has been with Barclays for 15 years, and now steps into a broader global leadership role for the bank.
Barclays has appointed John Shipman as Chief Executive Officer of Barclays Bank (Suisse) SA, following approval from the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA).
Shipman brings more than 25 years of experience in financial services and joins from HSBC, where he most recently served as interim Chief Executive Officer of its Swiss private banking business and Country Head for Switzerland. Earlier in his career, he held several senior roles at UBS and also gained experience working with global consulting firms.
Based in Geneva, Shipman will report to Annabelle Bryde, Head of Barclays Private Bank International.
Welcoming the appointment, Bryde said, “We are delighted to welcome John to Barclays. I am confident that under his leadership, we will continue to grow our Swiss business as a strategic platform for international wealth corridors and reinforce our market position as a leading institution committed to delivering excellence for our clients and delivery partners.”
Meanwhile, outgoing CEO Rahim Daya has been appointed Global Head of Sales Management for Barclays Private Bank and Wealth Management (PBWM). Daya, who has been with Barclays for 15 years, will now take on a broader global leadership role.
Bryde also acknowledged Daya’s contribution, stating, “I also extend my sincere thanks and well wishes to Rahim for his ongoing leadership and commitment to Barclays. Under his leadership, our Swiss business has delivered strong growth as a strategic centre for international wealth corridors. His new appointment reflects our strong culture of career development and internal mobility, ensuring that our leaders continue to grow within the organisation while bringing fresh perspectives to new challenges.”
Barclays has been operating in Switzerland since 1986 with an office in Geneva. Since 2012, the bank has also served private clients—including individuals, families, institutions, entrepreneurs and businesses, from its office in Zurich.
