MBSB Bank appoints Iskandar Shah Zulkarnain as Group Chief People Officer

Iskandar, who most recently served as CHRO at Bank Islam Malaysia, brings more than two decades of leadership experience across banking, financial services and multinational organisations.

MBSB Bank has announced the appointment of Iskandar Shah Zulkarnain as its new Group Chief People Officer, effective 15 January 2026. 

Announcing the leadership update, the bank said Iskandar brings more than two decades of leadership experience across banking, financial services and multinational organisations. 

His appointment reflects MBSB’s continued focus on building a people-first organisation supported by technology and innovation. In his new role, Iskandar will focus on strengthening a resilient, inclusive and high-performing culture aligned with the bank’s long-term business ambitions. 

Prior to joining MBSB Bank, Iskandar served as Chief Human Resources Officer at Bank Islam Malaysia for over six years. His earlier career includes senior HR leadership roles at Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia, HSBC Amanah, Maybank, and Shell, where he led key people and organisational initiatives across multiple HR functions. 

On the academic front, Iskandar holds an MBA from Universiti Utara Malaysia and a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Multimedia University. He also holds several professional certifications in human resources, strategic leadership and organisational management. 

In a separate leadership appointment, MBSB Bank also welcomed Azhar Syarawi Mokhtar as Group Chief Credit Officer. Azhar brings more than 27 years of experience in banking and credit risk management across multiple regions. In his role, he will lead the bank’s credit management strategy, with a focus on strengthening risk governance, portfolio quality and sustainable growth in line with MBSB’s FLIGHT26 roadmap. 

The bank welcomed both leaders, noting their appointments mark an important step in strengthening MBSB’s leadership team and future-ready capabilities.
