Public Service director general Tan Sri Dr Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz has been appointed chairman of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), effective Aug 13, as the organisation moves ahead with major rail and urban development projects.

MRT Corp said the appointment comes at an important stage in its national rail and urban development mandate, with several major infrastructure projects currently progressing.

These include the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link and the Penang LRT Mutiara Line, alongside efforts to strengthen the organisation’s capabilities in transit-oriented development, integrated property development and commercial revenue generation.

MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim said Wan Ahmad Dahlan brings extensive experience in public administration, governance and institutional leadership to the role.

He said the experience would support MRT Corp as it delivers major national infrastructure projects and strengthens its contribution to Malaysia’s mobility and urban development agenda.

Wan Ahmad Dahlan has served as Public Service director general since January 2024. His career in Malaysia’s public service spans more than three decades, beginning in the Administrative and Diplomatic Service in 1995.

Over the course of his career, he has held several senior positions, including director general of the Implementation Coordination Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department, secretary general of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Comptroller of the Royal Household at Istana Negara.

His experience covers public administration, governance, institutional management and policy implementation across various government ministries and institutions.

Beyond his current public service role, Wan Ahmad Dahlan serves as chairman of the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia and the Razak School of Government.

He also holds board positions at several organisations, including Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd, the Employees Provident Fund and the Inland Revenue Board.

His appointment to MRT Corp comes as Malaysia continues to expand its urban rail infrastructure, with major projects expected to shape connectivity, mobility and development across key cities.
