Roberta Duarte to return to Maersk as Chief People Officer

Duarte’s appointment follows Maersk’s announcement in August that Susana Elvira had decided to pursue opportunities outside the company after 24 years with Maersk.
Roberta Duarte will return to A.P. Moller - Maersk as Chief People Officer on November 1, 2026, succeeding Susana Elvira and joining the company’s Executive Leadership Team.
Duarte previously spent more than a decade with Maersk, holding senior People leadership roles across Asia Pacific, Latin America and the company’s Ocean & Logistics business between 2014 and 2024.
She returns to Maersk from Werfen, where she has served as Chief People Officer since May 2024.
“I am truly honoured to return to Maersk. It is a company that feels like home to me – both because its values resonate strongly with my own and because of the many relationships I built during my years with Maersk,” Duarte said.
During her previous tenure at Maersk, Duarte served as Global People Function VP for Technology, Ocean, Logistics and Services, Global Headquarter Ocean & Logistics HRBP Lead, Asia Pacific HR Head and Latin America HR Director.
Her roles included leading People functions across multiple markets and supporting business and organisational priorities spanning different regions and business areas.
Before joining Maersk, Duarte held a series of HR leadership roles at Citi and Citigroup across Latin America and North America. Her experience included regional HR, talent management, compensation, workforce planning, employee engagement and organisational change.
Duarte’s appointment follows Maersk’s announcement in August that Susana Elvira had decided to pursue opportunities outside the company after 24 years with Maersk.
Elvira has served as Maersk’s Chief People Officer and will leave the company after a long tenure spanning several leadership roles.
Duarte’s return brings a familiar leader back into Maersk’s senior People function, with experience across regional and global HR roles as well as a current perspective from her time as a chief people officer at Werfen.
