Somya Sugandha joins Thermo Fisher Scientific as Vice President – HR, APMEA

Sugandha will lead HR for the APMEA region, aligning people strategy with the company’s broader mission of impacting lives through science and innovation.
Somya Sugandha has been appointed Vice President – Human Resources for the APMEA region at Thermo Fisher Scientific, marking a new chapter in her over two-decade-long career in HR leadership.
Sugandha announced the move on LinkedIn, describing the transition as “both personal and intentional” after spending nearly 14 years across Alstom, General Electric, and GE Vernova.
Reflecting on her tenure, she noted that GE Vernova had been “more than a workplace,” where she spent over half of her professional journey. During this period, she played a key role in driving cultural transformation, embedding values-led leadership, and advancing employee experience initiatives.
She highlighted her involvement in strengthening employee resource groups (ERGs), emphasizing a shift from intent to action in areas such as fairness, inclusion, and day-to-day workplace behaviors. “It has been an honour to be part of the team that drives that culture, mindset and behaviour,” she shared.
Sugandha also acknowledged the role of mentors and colleagues in shaping her leadership journey, expressing gratitude for the trust, collaboration, and shared belief in people-centric growth across global teams.
In her new role at Thermo Fisher Scientific, she will lead HR for the APMEA region, aligning people strategy with the company’s broader mission of impacting lives through science and innovation. “This step is an evolution of a similar purpose where we impact lives of people,” she noted, adding that she looks ahead with “curiosity and a strong sense of possibility.”
With over 25 years of experience, Sugandha has built expertise across manufacturing, telecommunications, IT, and consulting. At GE Vernova, she most recently served as VP HR Head for GE Gas Power – Asia Pacific, and earlier held roles such as Regional HR Head – APAC for GE and Global Talent Recruitment Head at Alstom. She began her career with organisations including Genpact, EY, and Bharti Airtel.
Sugandha holds a master’s degree in human resources, a bachelor’s degree in history, and is a certified trainer and leadership coach.
