BMW Group Malaysia appoints Raymond Tan as Managing Director

BMW Group Malaysia has appointed Raymond Tan as its new Managing Director, bringing him back to the Malaysian business after senior regional leadership roles across Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.

Tan previously served as Managing Director of BMW Group Importer Region Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, where he led the business across the three markets. 

He had also served as Head of Sales for the region, building experience across commercial strategy, sales and market development.

Returning to Malaysia

The appointment marks Tan's return to BMW Group Malaysia, where he previously held senior positions as Head of Sales and Head of Marketing.

During his earlier tenure, Tan worked across sales strategy, brand and marketing leadership, customer engagement and commercial development, giving him extensive knowledge of Malaysia's premium automotive market.

His latest appointment brings together his market experience in Malaysia with regional leadership exposure across Asia as BMW Group Malaysia continues to develop its BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad businesses.

Broad automotive experience

Tan's career at BMW Group has spanned general management, sales, marketing, product strategy and automotive operations.

Earlier in his BMW career, he served as Regional Product Manager in Munich and Product and Price Planning Manager in Malaysia. These roles gave him experience in portfolio planning, product strategy and pricing before he moved into broader commercial and leadership positions.

Before joining BMW Group, Tan worked with Proton, where he began his career as a Rapid Prototyping Engineer before becoming Head of the Cost Improvement Unit.

His career progression across engineering, product planning, marketing, sales and general management has given him experience across several parts of the automotive value chain.

Leading Malaysian business

As Managing Director, Tan will oversee BMW Group Malaysia's operations as the company continues to develop its automotive business and wider ecosystem in the country.
