QBit expands globally with acquisition of 60% stake in SinChip

The acquisition comes as demand for customised chips continues to rise worldwide, creating fresh opportunities for companies with advanced ASIC design capabilities.
QBit Semiconductor has strengthened its position in the global semiconductor market after acquiring a 60% stake in Singapore-based SinChip Technology, a move designed to accelerate its push into high-growth chip design sectors.
The transaction, completed on 5 June, gives QBit operational control of SinChip and brings the Singapore company into the QBit Semiconductor group, according to PR newswire.
The acquisition comes as demand for customised chips continues to rise worldwide, creating fresh opportunities for companies with advanced ASIC design capabilities.
Growth strategy
Known for its work in intelligent image processing, precision motion control, post-quantum cryptography security architectures and high-precision SoC integration, QBit has been expanding beyond its traditional printing and imaging markets.
The company said the integration of SinChip will strengthen its existing high-performance SoC platforms while significantly enhancing its ASIC design services.
The combined business is expected to create new opportunities across Edge AI, high-performance computing, optical communications and automotive applications.
Advanced expertise
Headquartered in Singapore, SinChip specialises in IC logic verification, physical design and advanced technology adoption services.
The company employs around 130 engineering professionals and has extensive experience working with advanced semiconductor process technologies, including 3nm, 5nm and 7nm nodes.
Its track record spans both high-end ASIC development and mass-production implementation.
Strategic move
Simon Shen, Chairman of QBit, described the acquisition as a key milestone in the company's long-term growth plans.
"Assuming operational control of SinChip is a vital strategic layout in driving our diversified growth curves.
“Combining QBit's long-accumulated SoC platform technology with SinChip's extensive experience in advanced technologies, AI, optical communications, and automotive chip development will accelerate our expansion into the ASIC design services market and unlock new, high-growth emerging application opportunities,” he said.
Market opportunity
Shen highlighted growing demand for highly integrated ASICs as markets such as Edge AI, Physical AI, high-speed data transmission and intelligent endpoints continue to expand.
He further remarked that as the first and only IC design company in Taiwan to receive direct investment from Arm, QBit recognises the increasing need for customised semiconductor solutions.
"Through this strategic acquisition, QBit will further reinforce its customized chip development capabilities, expanding its scope of services and market coverage to instill strong momentum for future growth performance."
Global network
Following the acquisition, QBit will establish a broader research and development and technical services network spanning Taiwan, Japan, the United States, Singapore and Vietnam.
The company said the expanded footprint will strengthen its access to global talent and improve its ability to execute projects across multiple regions.
QBit plans to continue investing in technological innovation, strategic partnerships and international expansion as it works towards becoming a leading global provider of SoC design and comprehensive ASIC solutions.
